BDRC P677
Gyurme Thekchog Tenzin (1699–1758) was the 2nd Dzogchen Drubwang and third throne-holder of Dzogchen Monastery, one of the six great Nyingma monasteries of Tibet, located in the Rudam valley of Kham. Born into the Oirat Mongolian royal lineage, he was recognised as the reincarnation of the 1st Dzogchen Drubwang Pema Rigdzin (1625–1697), with his names conferred by the foremost figures of the Mindroling tradition including Terdak Lingpa Gyurme Dorje (1646–1714). He received teachings from over forty masters across all traditions, undertaking two major journeys to central Tibet, and between 1741 and 1755 engaged in extended retreat, practising Dzogchen Trekchö and Thögal continuously until direct realisation was attained. He played a pivotal role in establishing the Dege Parkhang printing house in 1729 and oversaw the flourishing of Dzogchen Monastery as a major centre of scholarship and practice. Among his foremost students was Jetsunma Migyur Peldron (1699–1769), daughter of Terdak Lingpa and principal architect of Mindroling's restoration. He passed away in 1757 or early 1758 at the age of sixty.
